Lola Lasagne : Biography

After a stint as a barman at the Two Brewers, Clapham and witnessing some of the best acts in the business, it was clear to me being Stephen wasn’t enough, and so, Lola Lasagne was born in 1987, at various amateur drag nights at places such as the Royal Oak, Hammersmith, Ship & Whale, Rotherhithe and the legendary Elephant & Castle! My first professional jobs were at the Brewers and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern and I was a mime act. I became one third of the mime act ABC, but in the early nineties, Lola’s ‘voice’ emerged, and the first time I sang live was at the Vauxhall, when appearing alongside Adrella at one of the famous Vauxhall Sports days.
Since then, I’ve worked every major venue in the UK and beyond, and alongside some of those acts, I grew up admiring and respecting. If I mention Lily Savage, H.I.H Regina Fong, Phil Starr, Dockyard Doris, Nikki Young, Maisie and Jimmy Trollette, Dave Lynn, Ceri Dupree, The Harlequeens, Sandra Playgirl, Millie Mopp, Katrina and the Boy, Topping and Butch, Sandra and Lucia, you’ll understand why I followed the sequin trail!
I’ve been lucky enough to perform in South Africa, sit on a sofa next to C3PO actor, Anthony Daniels, Juliette Binoche, Clare Sweeney, Blue and Kate Kray during my time as soap critic on Channel 4’s, the Big Breakfast. I’ve been called the weakest link by Anne Robinson, and got hideously drunk with one of the original 60’s Tiller Girls in Blackpool.
Having worked in Brighton, since Tracey Davenport ran the Queens Arms and Tony Chapman only dreamt of Revenge, it seemed only natural to move here in 1998.
Since then, I’ve had my head shaved for charity, performed in a sauna – fully clothed, been given 3 golden handbags, made a hero of Pride, and shown my love for cats!
Showbiz. It’s my life!
